Twenty-five years ago, a kid in taped-up glasses walked onto Platform Nine and Three-Quarters and none of us ever really came back.
This year, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone returns to theaters worldwide for its 25th anniversary — a one-week limited release running August 27 through September 3, 2026, with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage cut into the film. All eight Harry Potter movies will be playing on the big screen during that window, and the whole thing is timed around Back to Hogwarts Day on September 1, the date the Hogwarts Express leaves King’s Cross.
So here’s our pitch: see the movie, then go win a bar tab with what you know.
We’ve rounded up every Harry Potter trivia night we could verify across the United States for August and September 2026 — 18 events in 15 cities, now spanning fifteen states from South Carolina to Texas to Oklahoma. Whether you’re searching for Harry Potter trivia near me, a Back to Hogwarts party, or just a pub quiz where your Hogwarts house finally counts for something, start here.

Why Harry Potter Trivia Hits Different
Harry Potter is one of the few fandoms where nearly everyone at the table has some baseline. Your friend who hasn’t read a book since college still knows what a Horcrux is. That makes it one of the best themed trivia formats out there — nobody gets frozen out, but there’s enough depth that the real fans still get to show off.
And 2026 is the year to do it. Between the theatrical re-release, Back to Hogwarts Day, and the upcoming HBO series, the wizarding world is having its biggest cultural moment in years. Venues know it, which is why we’re seeing butterbeer on tap and costume contests at bars that normally just run general knowledge nights.
One thing worth knowing if your search is coming up empty: this year the events are almost entirely independent bars, breweries and bookstores rather than the big national trivia companies. Several of the largest hosts aren’t running Harry Potter nights this season at all, so the quizzes that do exist tend to be one-off dates posted by individual venues — often on social media and nowhere else. Checking a venue’s own page directly is usually more reliable than a general search.
Tips Before You Go
- September 1 is the night to circle — Back to Hogwarts Day carries two events, in Jacksonville and Charleston, with New Jersey following on September 2.
- Check the format before you commit. Some of these are books-only, some films-only, some combined. Slattery’s runs all three variations, and Charleston’s is a single-book deep dive on Deathly Hallows.
- Ticketed events sell out. Concord’s Triwizard Tournament, Jacksonville’s Back to Hogwarts night, Buffalo’s trivia brunch and New Jersey’s September 2 quiz all require advance tickets.
- Watch the start times. Austin’s themed nights run at 7:00 PM, an hour earlier than the venue’s usual Tuesday quiz — turning up at the regular time means missing the first rounds.
- Costumes are welcome nearly everywhere, and several venues award prizes for them. House scarves count.
- Arrive early. Most of these are first-come, first-served seating, and themed nights draw bigger crowds than regular trivia.

Twenty-five years after Harry first walked into the Great Hall, the best way to celebrate isn’t rewatching alone on the couch. Grab four friends, pick a house, argue about whether Snape counts as a hero, and go win something.
